Farewell Jack Parker

Jack Parker

I am afraid to report that my good friend Jack Parker passed away at 7.40pm last night.

It is no exaggeration to say that Jack will be remembered as one of the best card magic creators of our time. He was an inspiration to many card magicians and showed just what it takes to develop a great magic trick. We owe a lot to this man and I am glad that I was able to tell him that before he passed on.

Goodbye Jack. We’ll never forget you.

I have heard nothing but wonderful things about Jack and his magic. This is truly a great loss both for the magic community and for society in general. Prayers go out to Jack’s family and all those he touched with words or magic.

Words can’t really describe what a great guy Jack was. His magic was humbling and let me tell you, when he fooled you…you loved it! I’m proud to have called Jack a friend and wish that more people could have been around such a gentle and loving guy.

I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Parker’s passing. I can only hope that the donations made through Mr. Gladwin and Mr. Gordon’s recent publications will help others with cancer. As a recent cancer survivor, prostate, I know a little bit about cancer. I was very lucky, and prostate cancer can be cured. May the day come speedily when all cancer can be cured. Rest in peace, Mr. Parker. And may the family remember all of the blessings granted Mr. Parker in his short time on our planet.

I’m just learning the sad news just now. It’s sad. Very very sad. My thoughts are with Jack’s family at this time.

The good thing, however, is that Jack’s legacy is there for us all to read and learn from. Although I never got to meet him - and, boy, I regret that! - from what I’ve read about him I’m sure he’s somewhere sessioning!

Not the complete Parker, but I am currently working hard on a book containing Jack’s best magic. See this post:

I used to work with Jack, and had no idea about his magic talents. Apparantly he was also a very accomplished chess player. I was at his funeral today, and it was packed. He was a fabulous example of a man, and will be dearly missed. What was lovely to hear, was all the fun times and tributes made to him. I’m proud to say that I knew him.

  16. Andi Gladwin Says:

    David,

Jack’s funeral today was a very fitting tribute to a great man. I don’t think a single person (with the exception of his close family, of course) went away from the funeral without learning something new about Jack. It was great to hear so many stories about a man with many layers.

I also very much enjoyed talking to lots of Jack’s friends about his magic and explaining why he was so unique.

Thanks for stopping by the website and feel free to share a story or two about Jack in my latest post.

I am very saddened to hear this news. I met Jack only once. We had been introduced via email by a mutual friend, and Jack kindly invited me to meet him at a pub in Haslemere last year for a drink and to share some card magic. I remember the evening very well and we had a good time. He was very friendly, modest and easy-going, and I enjoyed his company. One thing I remember about his card magic is that it really did contain techniques and ways of thinking that were new - there was genuine, clever invention there. He was very encouraging to me, and generously taught me some of his excellent card effects. One of these is now a favourite of mine, and I will remember him with warmth each time I perform it. I send my condolences to his family.

Got something to add?
